Celebrating Big Butterfly Month 2025 with The Naturalist School
September is here, and that means it’s time for the Big Butterfly Month (BBM)! The Naturalist School is thrilled to participate in this nationwide citizen science initiative dedicated to raising awareness about butterfly conservation and documenting their diversity.
Throughout the month, nature enthusiasts across India come together to observe and record butterflies, and we’ve organized some exciting events to help you get involved.
Butterfly Walks in Nagpur
The Naturalist School is hosting nature walks in Nagpur, guided by Certified Nature Guide Nayanika Bhatia. Join us to explore local trails and spot different species.
- September 21: Ambazari Biodiversity Park, Ring Road, Hingna, Nagpur
These walks all begin at 7:30 AM. - September 13: Gorewada Bio Park Nature Trail, Nagpur
- September 20: Japanese Garden, Seminary Hills, Nagpur

Butterfly Walks in Telangana
In partnership with WWF-India Hyderabad Office and other organizations, we’re hosting a series of guided butterfly walks in Telangana. Each session will include guided walks, talks by experts, and opportunities to document butterfly species.
The venue for these includes – Sanjeevaiah Park (Inaugural Session), Botanical Gardens, KBR National Park, ICRISAT Campus, Narsapur Reserve Forest, Vikarabad Forest, ForestTrek Park (Closure Ceremony). All events will take place from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM. You can scan the QR code on the Telangana poster to register!



Telangana Butterfly Checklist
As part of our efforts to document local biodiversity, we’ve published a checklist of butterfly species observed in Telangana. The checklist, compiled using observations from iNaturalist, includes families like Hesperiidae (Skippers) and Lycaenidae (Blues and Hairstreaks). You can explore the full checklist here to see common names like the Brown Awl, Spotted Angle, and Common Hedge Blue.
