Applications Open: Biodiversity Data Mobilization Workshop in Bangalore

We are excited to announce the Biodiversity Data Mobilization Workshop, an in-person training program jointly organized by the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) and The Naturalist School. The workshop will be conducted in Bangalore during 27–28 September 2025.

This workshop offers hands-on training in preparing, sharing, and publishing biodiversity data through the GBIF platform. Whether you’re a researcher, data manager, or biodiversity enthusiast working in research or policy, this is your chance to build practical skills that contribute to global biodiversity knowledge.

What you’ll learn

Through a mix of instruction, group work, and practical exercises, you’ll learn how to transform raw biodiversity observations into high-quality datasets that can be shared through the GBIF network.

Learning objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

• Understand the foundations of biodiversity informatics and digital data management
• Work with the Darwin Core Standard for biodiversity data
• Plan and evaluate biodiversity data mobilization projects
• Capture, manage, and clean biodiversity data using best practices and tools
• Use GBIF’s Integrated Publishing Toolkit (IPT) to publish datasets
• Build capacity in their institutions to manage and share biodiversity data

Certification

Successful participants will receive an official Open Badge certification upon completion of the course and assessment of assignments by trainers and mentors.
