Thinking Like A Scientist

practical biology learning beyond the classroom

About the course

This is a six-part live online webinar series (micro-course) that helps students understand how science works in the real world. Learn from researchers, educators, and practitioners as you explore scientific thinking, ecology, conservation, citizen science, research literacy, and practical biological inquiry.

Who is this for

This course is for undergraduate and postgraduate students, research aspirants, educators, conservation volunteers, citizen scientists, and nature enthusiasts who want to explore biology beyond the classroom. It is especially relevant for learners interested in ecology, biodiversity, conservation, environmental science, research, and related careers.

No prior research experience is required—only curiosity and an interest in understanding the natural world through a scientific lens.

What will you learn

By the end of the series, you will be able to:

  • Think scientifically: frame questions, assess evidence, and approach problems with curiosity.
  • Read and interpret research papers with greater confidence.
  • Understand how citizen science contributes to biodiversity research and conservation.
  • Explore biomimicry and how nature inspires practical solutions.
  • Interpret scientific data and communicate ideas clearly.
  • Connect biology with ecology, conservation, research, and everyday environmental challenges.
