Course – Certified Nature Guide – Batch 1

India’s first batch of Certified Nature Guide course was held in Nov& Dec of 2022. The course is a 200-hour immersive programme that has a good mix of field work, group projects, classroom training and experiential learning. As part of the training, participants put their new learning into practice by independently leading guests at eco-lodges. After a final round of assessment by Skill India under the Tourism and Hospitality Sector, they were set to advance their careers in the field. Nature Guide Training – Panna Jungle Camp, Madhya Pradesh

India’s first Skill India certified guides came from the Nature guide training workshops that were conducted in three  Jungle Camps – Panna, Kathotiya & Samardha – in Madhya Pradesh. The candidates were already working as nature guides and were awarded with Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) certificates after their completion of a 35 hr course that was held on the field and in class room styled learning.   The RPL training covered aspects of green practices, good communication, gender sensitivity, conducting a nature trail and an orientation into nature interpretation.   We collaborated with the Last Wilderness Foundation, who work in wildlife conservation along with these communities, who helped in identifying...

Ecoguide training – Bhitarkanika, Orissa

The Naturalist School was approached by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH to conduct an Eco-guide Training program at Mangrove sites of Bhitarkanika, Orissa. This 5 day program was conducted as a skill development and capacity building program for the beneficiaries, largely boat crew, from five nearby villages, at this eco tourism site. Participants were identified by the local partner APOWA for this semi-residential training course. The sessions were held at the Bhitarkanka Jungle camp with practical session in and around the campus along with boat safaris around Kanika island. Nature Guide Training – Mangrove Foundation, Kalinje, Maharashtra

The Mangrove Foundation works towards the conservation and monitoring of mangroves and coastal biodiversity. The Foundation also supports the implementation of various livelihood activities under the ‘Mangrove Conservation and Livelihood Generation Scheme’ of Government of Maharashtra. A refresher course was conducted to re-energise, motivate and skill-build the beneficiaries across Mangrove Foundation ecotourism sites. The 5 day workshop was conducted at Kalinje Ecotourism site where participants from three neighbouring regions took part. A workshop was held for Naturalists of an ecolodge on the ‘Ethics Role & Responsibilities of a Naturalist’.
